Learning & Development

How we learn at work.

  • Personal development opportunities.

Colleagues at Innovate have access to internal personal development opportunities, where we encourage self development. Examples of opportunities include: time management and communication workshops, sessions to learn how to hold difficult conversations, and influencing and negotiating training.

  • Regular appraisals.

There’s nothing worse than not knowing how you’re doing or what your line manager thinks of your performance. We encourage regular 1-to-1s between you and your manager to identify what’s gone well and to discuss any pressing issues. We also have an annual appraisal process that should give you clear, mutually agreed objectives for the forthcoming year.

  • Formal learning.

Colleagues can gain specialist skills through formal learning that can be accessed via our training partners or external organisations. Examples include Agile or ITIL courses, PRINCE2 project management qualifications or Cyber Security training.

  • Experimental learning.

Colleagues are actively encouraged to undertake experimental, innovative, self-directed learning through on-the-job experiences. Instead of always being told how to do something, Innovate supports colleagues to gain knowledge through coming up with ideas (however radical), making mistakes and sharing lessons learnt.
