Warwick Hospital Welcomes New Cutting-Edge Data Centres

Innovate, in collaboration with South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) and Datacentre UK, recently unveiled two state-of-the-art data centres at Warwick Hospital.

Becoming fully operational on 26 February 2024, these two secure, massively resilient and multiply redundant energy-efficient data centres now serve as the central hub for all our servers, storage, telecoms, and network connectivity.

Delivered as part of a complete network refresh project for the Lakin Road site, which also involved the installation of more than 40km of fibreoptic networking by AdaptiveCare, they form part of a substantial technological upgrade for our valued customers in Warwickshire.

Reflecting on the achievement, Phil Johns, Chief Technology Officer at Innovate said, “These new data centres mark a pivotal moment for Innovate and our customers across Warwickshire and the surrounding counties.

“Not only do they ensure the highest standards of security, availability and efficiency, but they also represent our on-going commitment to, and investment in, advancing digital healthcare using the latest technologies.”

Innovate has now completed the relocation of all server hardware and appliances to the new data centres, along with the migration to a new Extreme Networks core data network and the replacement of a legacy telecoms platform with a leading-edge IP based system.

This successful implementation and delivery not only modernises the local technological landscape, but also, by enhancing infrastructure, it lays the foundation for future healthcare technology innovations.

Key features of the Data Centres:

  • 16 state-of-the-art racks with N+1 power and cooling

  • Utilisation of Schneider Easy UPS, Netshelter SX Racks, Hot Aisle containment & In Row cooling with Free Cooling chilled water chillers for maximum efficiency

  • Implementation of Netbotz for environmental and physical monitoring and EcoStruxure IT for advanced monitoring and alerting
