Adastra Goes Live: Smoother, Smarter Emergency Care at GEH & SWFT

Patients needing urgent care at George Eliot Hospital (GEH) and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) can now benefit from a smoother and more efficient journey, thanks to the successful implementation of the Adastra NHS 111 solution.

This innovative system, which integrates NHS 111 with Emergency Department settings, ensures patients receive timely and appropriate care when attending the GEH Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, SWFT Emergency Department, and the Minor Injuries Unit at Stratford Hospital.

When a patient calls NHS 111, a clinical assessment determines whether they need to visit an Emergency Department or Urgent Care setting. With Adastra, patients are now offered an arrival time slot, helping to manage demand, reduce waiting times, and ensure they are seen by the right healthcare professionals as quickly as possible.

A key benefit for patients is that they no longer need to repeat their details when arriving at the hospital. Adastra automatically transfers their information from NHS 111 to the hospital’s system, reducing stress, avoiding delays, and allowing clinical teams to focus on delivering care rather than gathering patient history.

For emergency teams, Adastra streamlines triage by providing essential patient information in advance, ensuring a seamless care journey from the moment a patient calls NHS 111 to their arrival in hospital. By integrating with existing healthcare systems, the solution helps reduce duplication, improves patient flow, and enables faster decision-making in busy clinical settings.

Early feedback from patients and Emergency Department teams has been positive, with staff noting that the system is easy to use and has significantly improved patient management and coordination with NHS 111.

Adam Wilson, General Manager of Urgent and Emergency Care at GEH, said:  “The implementation of Adastra has been a significant step forward in improving how we manage patient flow in our Emergency Departments. Patients are receiving care more quickly and efficiently, and our teams can focus on delivering high-quality treatment without unnecessary delays. The system is user-friendly and has already made a noticeable difference in reducing congestion, facilitating smoother triage, and improving coordination with NHS 111.”

At Innovate, we are proud to have supported the implementation of Adastra at GEH and SWFT. This milestone reinforces our commitment to patient-centred innovation, ensuring that urgent care services are more responsive, efficient, and focused on delivering the best possible experience for every patient.
